Lutsen Activities
While certain activities are limited and spots are not guaranteed, your resort fee does encompass a wide array of options to enjoy while you are staying with us such as use of our nightly bonfires, the swimming pool and hot tub and of course complimentary smores kits available from the front desk.

Lutsen Resort Recreation
The resort has an on-site Recreation Department whose focus is to assist you with information and access to resort and area experiences.
We do require reservations (and recommend it as some fill up quickly) for most activities. To make reservations please use the Book Here button above or call our guest services department.

Complimentary Ski Shuttle
Go back in time as you get driven to the top of Lutsen Mountains in our 1935 Glacier National Park Jammer Bus. Lodge guests will be picked up from the lodge. Cliffhome and Log Cabin guests will get picked up from their units.The 2022/2023 season has officially started and daily shuttle services are as follows:
8:30 AM - to the mountain
10:00 AM - to the mountain
2:00 PM - pick up at the mountain
3:00 PM - pick up at the mountain

Ice Skating
Enjoy our ice rink overlooking Lake Superior! We have complimentary skate rentals for guests. The ice skating rink is not open for public use and is for resort guests only. Skates can be retrieved from our front desk staff in the main lodge lobby. Warm up rinkside with our roaring bonfires.
Rink availability is weather dependant and the opening and closure of each year will rely on what the weather allows us.

Cross Country Skiing
Two trail systems within minutes of Lutsen Resort have over 150 kilometers of groomed and tracked cross-country trails winding through a spectacular variety of terrain and overlooks. $10 Minnesota Day Ski Pass Required on trails for guests 16 and older. See our front desk to pick up your cross country skis.
Ski season is of course weather dependant, and availability will last as long as mother nature allows.

Snowshoes
Our staff will outfit you with a pair of snowshoes and you can enjoy a self-guided adventure through the winter woods! Only offered in the winter months.

Swimming Pool
Lutsen Resort has a swimming pool complex located at the main lodge, including a hot tub and sauna. Guests have access to the Lodge Pool (hours are 8:30am-11pm), which offers towels, deck chairs and changing rooms.

Live Music
We host musicians each week all year round. During the warmer months you can find them on the beach, and during the cooler months they will be performing right in the lobby of our historic main lodge. This season we have someone each Saturday evening at 6:30. These dates may not always be certain so please check with our team for a complete schedule of events.

Beach Bonfires
Available every evening, just ask at the front desk and we’ll get it started and you can keep it going as long as you like. We’ve also got the makings for S’mores available for the young and young at heart. Available each night during the warmer months and upon request during the cooler months.

Red Jammer Fall Color Tours
Our tour guide will take you to see all the fall colors of the North Shore in our 1935 Red Jammer Bus. Tours leave daily from the main lodge at 9:00 AM.
Available during the fall months.

Guided Hikes
Our guide will take you to a nearby destination for a 2-3 mile leisurely hike. Throughout the hike you will learn more about the natural environment, flora and fauna, and cultural history of the area. Destinations include spectacular waterfalls, inspiring vistas and/or beautiful shoreline.

Guided Waterfall Tours
The North Shore offers over a dozen rivers and waterfalls that rage in full glory during the waterfall season, usually mid-April to late May. Many are just minutes from the resort. Join one of our resort guides for a guided hike (1.2 miles out and back) hike to the beautiful 35 foot Caribou Falls. Waterfall Tours are approximately 2 hours long, this includes travel time to and from trailhead and the hike itself.

Bike Rentals
Guests of Lutsen Resort can now enjoy complimentary bike rentals to use on the beautiful Gitchi Gami trail! Take in the beautiful sights of the North Shore at your own pace.
Available during the summer months. Check back closer to the date for our 2023 availbility.

Tandem Sea Kayaking
A paddle along the shore, starting right from the resort beach! We will gear you up, go over basic paddle strokes, safety considerations, then enjoy seeing the North Shore from a different perspective.
Typically offered from June to mid September.

Casting Lesson
Take part of a 30 minute introduction to fly fishing. Our knowledgeable guides with teach you the basics to this favorite Minnesota pastime. Introductions are by reservation only. Please call or visit our guest services desk in person for all inquiries.
Available during the summer months.

Fly Fishing
Enjoy a half day guided brook trout fishing experience in some of our scenic north shore streams and rivers. Our guide will show you techniques and strategies to target coaster brook trout. This is a classic and simple way to enjoy the ample fishing opportunities of the north shore. Minnesota fishing licenses and trout stamps are required to participate.
Typically runs May or June to the end of September.

Naturalist Programs
Each year, naturalist programs are offered at a variety of resorts and campgrounds along the North Shore through the Resort Naturalist Program. This program is cooperatively funded by the USDA Forest Service and the Visit Cook County. All naturalist programs are free of charge and open to everyone. This past summer we hosted programs every Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM on the beach in front of the main lodge. Tuesdays were all about moose and Thursdays were all about the dark skies and astronomy of the area.

9-Hole Pitch and Putt Golf
Try our 9-hole "pitch and putt" golf course. Beginning golfers love the "no pressure" situation. Clubs are available at the Guest Services Desk in the Lodge. No tee times required.
