Bike Trails
A wet and cold spring means muddy off-road trails. Stick to
paved and gravel trails until the trail's in the woods harden up..
Paved Trail - Gitchi-Gami Bike Trail
up to 12 miles round trip Park at Temperance
River State Park. Follow the paved Gitchi-Gami trail on the
non-lake side of the highway until Tofte. Cross the highway to the
lake side of the highway along Tofte Park Road. Follow the
Gitchi-Gami trail until the end of the pavement, near Leveaux
Creek. "Smooth riding on an easily-accessed paved trail. You'll
wander through State Park land as well as along the shore."
Beginner Forest Road - Onion River Road
up to 6 miles round trip Park in the Onion River
Road parking lot. Bike out Onion River Road, turning around at the
end of the road. Intermediate trail continues beyond the road.
"An easy and scenic ride on hard-pack gravel. Gentle hills and
meandering route."
Beginner Trail Ride - Summit View
3 miles round trip Park at the Britton Peak
Trailhead. Follow the bike trail signs across the highway and
towards Carleton Peak. Please no
bikes on the Superior Hiking Trail. "This is a gentle
introduction to trail riding, winding through the forest and
ending at a picnic area with a view of Carleton Peak."
Mountain Bike Trail Ride and Single Track, Intermediate
- Pincushion Mountain 4.5 mile loop
(trail ride) 2.5 mile loop (single track)
Park at the Pincushion Mountain trailhead. Follow signs for biking
trail. Single track loop is accessed from far end of trail ride.
