STAFF PICK
Okontoe Sleigh Rides,
up the Gunflint Trail, offers the most magical sleigh ride
in Minnesota and maybe the world. Everything, from seeing
the massive, over a ton each, horses being hooked up to
your sleigh, to the stories and songs sung by owner, Mark
Patten, as he commands the horses into gallops and slows
them around tight corners is a step back in time, in a
place removed from the fast pace life of even laid back
Grand Marais and Lutsen. After your sleigh ride through
one of the only if not the only lantern lit course in the
world, join the Patten family in their cozy log home for a
cup of real, as in no instant mix here, hot chocolate.
This is a true winter Northwood experience.
From their website, "Our guests, who have come from all
over the United States and from 38 countries around the
world, frequently comment that "this was the highlight of
our vacation". Since our sleigh ride beginnings in 1994,
we have been featured in the Country Woman and Midwest
Living magazines and on Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound and
Jason Davis' On the Road television shows, for which we
are very grateful."
