Weekend Activity Descriptions
Geared toward the fitness skier or casual racer, this weekend
is an ideal ski clinic. Each day provides opportunity for
technique advancement as well as incorporating a mid- to
long-distance ski workout. Friday is dedicated to Classic Ski
technique, while Saturday focuses on Skate Ski technique.
Your coach for the weeknd is Adam Harju, a former member of the
U.S. Biathlon Team. He is a lifelong ski enthusiast and has over
10 years of ski coaching and instruction experience. Adam’s
relaxed demeanor and eagle eye are a perfect combination to help
you fine tune your ski technique.
We primarily use the nearby Sugarbush Trail system, between
Lutsen and Tofte. Sugarbush trails are renowned for offering a
wide variety of trails, and have been ranked as having the “Best
Grooming” and for being “Most Off The Beaten Track” by Andrew
Slade in Skiing the North Shore guide book.
This is a great mid-season refresher. Remember, the Birkie is
only a month away!
Package Perks
After skiing hard all day, guests return to the comfort of
Lutsen Resort’s lodging and accommodations. Whether in the
historic coziness of the Main Lodge, or a luxurious Poplar River
Condo, guests feel right at home. Sore and tired muscles are
alleviated in the pool, hot tub or sauna. From Ingie’s buttermilk
pancakes to the potato encrusted walleye, guests are heartily
satisfied with all the meals in our famous lakeside Dining Room.
Required Equipment
Both classic and skate ski equipment are required. If one of
the techniques is new to you, we can recommend places to rent high
end gear.
January on the North Shore can be warm or cold, snowy or sunny.
Be prepared with enough clothing for 2 days, including a change
into dry clothing for each afternoon session. A water bottle is a
great idea for the longer skis.
The Sugarbush Trails are run by a local non-profit
organization, requiring each participant must have a Minnesota
State Ski Pass.
