Weekend Activity Descriptions
LUTSEN RESORT is offering a unique opportunity to get off the
beaten track and into the wild winter Northland backcountry. Join
professional photographer Bryan Hansel (www.bryanhansel.com) and
expert backcountry guide Adam Harju on snowshoe treks into
untouched areas “where nobody goes.” There you’ll search for
animal tracks, try to find wolf, moose, pine marten, owls and
other animals. Bryan will help you capture great pictures of ice
formations, winter landscapes. There will be ample time to capture
interplay of light and shadows in this snow-covered wilderness.
Although this adventure features classroom presentations, most of
the time will be spent exploring.
Although there will be some classroom time, expect to spend
most of this workshop in the field. This is a fast pace workshop
and we'll be exploring some exciting locations, so be prepared for
photography on the go. Bryan will be available to
answer any questions, suggest pictures, and show you some of his
hidden photography sites.
Program Presentations
THE SECRETS OF STAYING WARM: Adam discuses techniques to stay
warm and dry in the winter. In this hands-on presentation, Adam
takes you beyond the knowledge of simple layering.
THE SECRETS OF WINTER PHOTOGRAPHY: Learn the secrets of keeping
your camera gear functional. Bryan shows you how to overcome the
unique challenges of using photography equipment in the winter.

manual settings on your camera. He also discusses composition and
several techniques for developing your photographic style.

Camera: A SLR style digital camera or a point and shoot that
allows you to manually set your shutter speed and aperture is
