Weekend Activity Descriptions
LUTSEN RESORT is offering a great opportunity for you to kick
your kayaking season into high gear. Join kayak instructors Adam
Harju and Bryan Hansel for a spring kayaking adventure and
training. The first day, we’ll put you through the paces of the
ACA Coastal Kayaking Basic Strokes and Rescues course with an
emphasis on pushing your skills. The next day features an all day
tour on Lake Superior at Tettegouche State Park where we’ll paddle
through sea caves and arches and along side of towering palisades.
If weather or lake conditions are unfavorable for Tettegouche
we’ll spend the day paddling in a more protected location.
Beginners Are Welcome!
Activities range from easy to moderately difficult. Both days
will require good conditioning and stamina. Thursday will involve
spending some time in the water practicing rescues.
Water and Weather Conditions
Spring in the northland brings unpredictable weather. It could
be warm or it could be snowing. Plan for cold weather and rainy
conditions, but hope for warmth and sun. Regardless of air
temperatures, Lake Superior averages around 40°F in June, so wet
or dry suits are required. Bring your own or use one of ours.
Required Gear
No specific kayaking gear is required. We will provide
wetsuits, paddles, PFDs, kayaks, paddling jackets and rescue
equipment. We will have several tow ropes available for your use.
Please feel free to bring your own gear.
You must provide a swimsuit, shoes that can get wet, extra
clothing, a towel, long-sleeve synthetic top, sunscreen, two
one-quart water bottles, sunglasses and any other items that you’d
want to have for outdoor trips
